News

Mahatma Gandhi, more lovingly known as Bapu by all Indians, is internationally acknowledged for his doctrine of non-violence that led India to its glorious freedom. Be the change that you wish to see in the world, said Mahatma Gandhi. With this noble thought for the day, Indian School Salalah commemorated the 154th   birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhiji on 2 October 2023. The various sections of the school organized several events and activities.

The auspicious day of Gandhi Jayanti began with the assembly presided by the Principal, Vice Principal, Asst. Vice Principals, staff and students of Grades 5 to 8. The students of Grade 6 organized a special assembly. The programme commenced with a peaceful invocation to the almighty sung by the school choir, creating a holy ambience in the school premises. Miss Alana of Grade 6F welcomed the gathering. Mast. Kazi of Grade 6A delivered a speech highlighting the achievements of the most significant influencer of the 20th century. The beautiful rendition of the song and the rhythmic dance depicting the simple life of Gandhi filled with integrity mesmerized the gathering. The presentation on the Proverbial Three Wise Monkeys was based on the ideology of Gandhian Philosophy and its relevance among today’s youth was inspiring. Miss Malavika of Grade 6E proposed the vote of thanks. The programme concluded with the national anthem.

The Blues House of the Primary Section conducted a special assembly for the students of Grades 3 and 4 in the auditorium to mark the significance of the day. Moving a step ahead in helping the children understand what Mahatma Gandhi stood for, the very ideology and concept of non-violence, truth, honesty and love for humanity were brought to the fore by the enthusiastic students through a story on his life, a song and presenting a talk show on Gandhi. In her address, Assistant Vice Principal Ms. Anita Rose advised the children to remember our great leaders and their sacrifices towards the country.

The KG Block was abuzz with patriotic fervour when the students dressed as Mahatma Gandhi and freedom fighters entered the school. The Science teachers organized a special assembly for Classes 1 & 2 students. The students put up a short skit depicting Gandhiji’s contribution to India’s freedom struggle and finally winning the freedom for India. The skit showed the impact of his principles and ideologies on people who followed his ways to win freedom for India. Students also presented a dance performance, which was well appreciated by everyone. The tiny tots paid homage to the great leader in the same block with great enthusiasm. Seeing the little Gandhi and Kasturba on the stage was indeed a sight to behold. Children paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi by participating in a welcome song, an action song and a patriotic dance performance.

Mahatma Gandhi always stressed on the cleanliness of the surroundings. To give a fitting tribute to the Father of our Nation, to bring alive Gandhi’s vision of young India, observing ‘Swachhata Hi seva’ campaign, the Eco club students organized a cleanliness drive to clean the school grounds and vicinity. Dr. Abubacker Siddique, the President SMC and the Principal, Mr. Deepak Patankar, inaugurated the event. In his address, the Principal shared a few insights in which he urged the students to imbibe the values and ideals of Gandhi. His thoughts on the importance of Gandhian Philosophy in the present-day world resonated in the auditorium. He also advised the children to maintain cleanliness and walk on the path of non-violence. The entire ISS fraternity pledged to keep the surroundings clean and barged on the mission of ‘Clean-up Drive.’ The cleanliness made the students more patriotic and developed a sense of pride in the minds of the students.

Indeed, it was a great day of joy to remember and respect Mahatma Gandhi and follow the glorious trails of the noble soul towards evolving a peaceful and prosperous world.
