Scouts and Guides camps are an integral part of the Bharat Scouting and Guiding movement, providing young individuals with valuable experiences and opportunities for personal growth. These camps serve as platform for learning, adventure and character development.

The Scouts and Guides unit of Indian School Salalah conducted the Annual camp on 9th December 2023 for students of classes V &VIII and on 16th December 2023 for students of classes VI & VII. Overall more than 300 students and 50 teachers participated in the camp.

Engaging Activities of camp on 9th December 2023 for classes V and VIII

The camp commenced with an assembly where all participants gathered to kick start the event. Camp leaders Mr. Showkath Ali and Mrs. Sreevidya briefed the attendees about the schedule and objectives of the camp. During the camp, a significant event took place as the Scout Masters and Guide Captains were invested with their respective roles. The investiture ceremony was conducted by esteemed Principal Mr. Deepak Patankar. The ceremony symbolized the responsibility and leadership bestowed upon the selected individuals. Following the investiture, a flag hoisting ceremony was held to raise the Scouts and Guides flag. This ceremony represented the unity and spirit of the Scouts and Guides movement. To promote inclusivity and respect for diverse beliefs, an all-faith prayer session was conducted.

A session on health and Hygiene was conducted by President-SMC, Dr.Aboobacker Siddique in the school auditorium. Participants were educated on the importance of maintaining good health and personal hygiene. Principal Mr. Deepak Patankar, Vice Principal Mr. Mammikutty, AVP Mr. Vipin Das were in presence. Speaking on the occasion Principal Mr. Deepak Patankar whole heartedly appreciated the efforts taken by Scouts and Guides unit. ‘This camp will be a remarkable journey of learning, growth and camaraderie for young individuals.’ he added.

An exhibition on “Wealth out of Waste” in AV room was inaugurated by Dr. Aboobacker Siddique. The exhibition showcased creative and innovative ways of reusing and recycling materials promoting environmental consciousness among the participants. The Scouts and Guides were engaged in a memory game called KIM, which challenged their cognitive and memory skills. An art and craft session was conducted by Art Department teachers, where the participants learned to create photo frames using rolled newspapers. A demonstration on Fire Extinguisher Techniques was given by Health and Safety Club of school to educate about the fire safety and emergency response. Trained professionals showcased various firefighting equipment and demonstrated their proper usage and precautions.

A session on self-empowerment was conducted by AVP Mr. Vipin Das. The participants were motivated to recognize their potential, set goals and develop a positive mindset to overcome challenges and achieve success. To foster healthy competition and teamwork, various competitive games were organized on the school playground. The camp concluded with a grand campfire, the camp fire was kindled by four scouts and guides representing four cardinal directions. Patriotic song competition activity was conducted during campfire.

Engaging Activities of camp on 16th December 2023 for classes VI and VII.

Highlights of camp on 16th December 2023 for classes VI and VII included assembly of scouts and guides, investiture of Scout Masters and Guide Captains by Principal Mr. Deepak Patankar, all faith prayer and an enlightening session on “Maintaining Optimal Health and Hygiene” by Dr. Shaji Shreedhar, Treasurer SMC. The session aimed at instilling essential practices for a healthy lifestyle. ‘Health is a dynamic balance between physical, mental, spiritual, social and intellectual health ‘he quoted. The session was followed by a visit to Wealth out of Waste Exhibition and KIM game.

A session on the topic “Igniting Young Minds” was conducted by AVP Mrs. Anita Rose. The session aimed to ignite curiosity and a thirst for knowledge among young minds. It encouraged participants to explore various fields of interest, discover their strengths and develop a growth mindset.

It was followed by training on Fire Extinguisher Techniques by professionals, art and craft session, competitive games and a grand campfire. The camp fire created a warm and memorable atmosphere, fostering sense of unity and friendship among scouts and guides.

Overall, the camp provided an excellent experience for the students to develop their creativity, positive social interaction, leadership, team spirit and meaningful participation.
