INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH OBSERVED WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY -2019

The Social Science Department of Indian School Salalah observed World No Tobacco Day on 30.5.2019 in the school campus. The students of class 7 organized programs to create awareness on harmful effects of consumption of tobacco.

The program commenced with the welcome speech by Miss Evelyn Varghese. Students then presented a skit to create awareness about the risks posed by tobacco smoking and second-hand smoke exposure. A video was shown to focus on the steps taken by the government to control the demand for tobacco and the negative impact that tobacco has on people’s health, which can cause dangerous diseases like cancer or chronic respiratory problems.  The students presented a short speech on how famous personalities quit smoking. The students enacted a mime on how youngsters are trapped into smoking and its hazardous effects in their family and society. 

A ‘No to tobacco’ campaign was organised among the students of classes 8 to 12 . Campaign group requested to the students to convey ‘No smoking’ message to their parents and to the community as a whole. Students displayed posters in the school quadrangle to call the attention of the students towards the plight of the people those who smoke. The young artists of the school drew a catching poster to alarm students and warm them not to touch tobacco products. It has called wider attention of the students and the teachers.      

Dr. S. Srinivasan, the acting principal of the school addressed the gathering. He warned students on the harmful effects of smoking and its adverse effect in the economy of developing countries. He appreciated Social Science department and participants of the programme for all their efforts to create awareness among the students. Miss Angel Maria Santhosh proposed the vote of thanks.
