Indian School Salalah organizes – Interactive session with Dr. Baby Sam Saamuel

Indian School Salalah organized an interactive session for the senior students of classes IX to XII with Dr. Baby Sam Saamuel, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Indian Schools in Oman. in Dhofar University Auditorium- Salalah on 15th December 2018.
Dr. Baby Sam Saamuel is the current Chairman of the Board of Directors, Indian Schools in Oman. He has been associated with the Indian School System since 2016, serving as Director of the BOD. He is also the Director of the renowned organization Knowledge Oman and is an Advisory Committee member for the higher education institutes in Oman. Professionally, he is an award winning business consultant specializing in turnaround management, business mentoring and strategic consultancy. 
Honourable Acting President of the School Management Committee Dr. Syed Ahsan Jamil, other esteemed members of the SMC, Principal Mr. T.R. Brown and the Student Prefectorial body of the school received the chief guest Dr. Baby Sam Saamuel, Chairman BOD- Indian Schools in Oman and the guests of honour , Dr. C.M. Najeeb Vice Chairman and DIC- IS Salalah , Mr. Selvichen Jacob DIC- IS Salalah and Mr. M P Vinoba, Sr.Principal & Edn.Advisor with due honour at the Dhofar University Auditorium, Salalah.
Mr. Binoy, CCA Coordinator, who anchored the event, gave a general welcome to the Chief Guest and the gathering and highlighted some of the achievements of the Chief Guest Dr. Baby Sam Saamuel-Chairman of the Board of Directors, Indian Schools in Oman. He profusely recalled the presence of eminent personalities in the school’s annual celebrations in the past, and highlighted the importance of such interactive sessions with distinguished personalities that inspire, guide and motivate the students of IS Salalah.  
The programme commenced with the presentation of bouquet to Dr. Baby Sam Saamuel, followed by melodious prayer song by the school choir.
Mr. Jose Kaviyil Chacko - Member SMC welcomed the Chief Guest, guests of honour, other invitees, parents and students and called for making the session a grand success. He said that it has been a unique platform for the students from 9th to 12th classes interact and learn from extraordinary personalities. 
Dr. Syed Ahsan Jamil  Acting President of the SMC formally introduced Dr. Baby Saamuel-Chairman of the Board of Directors, Indian Schools in Oman and highlighted his achievements and contribution in the field of education and entrepreneurship.
 In his presentation Dr. Baby Saamuel-Chairman of the Board of Directors, Indian Schools in Oman, talked about the challenges which current generation might face in the coming years. He took the students on the voyage of understating the theories of needs starting from Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs to types of Intelligences and types of learners. He urged students to come out of knowledge based learning to move towards application based learning. He said, “Knowing oneself, and asking question – who am I ? , is base of realization”
He emphasized that ‘one size does not fit all’ and added that the biggest challenge today’s generation is facing is the lack of empathy. In the coming years Artificial Intelligence and computer will take away everything that we have, in that situation we must have that Artificial Intelligence does not – that is team work, love, empathy and so on for our survival.  
The much awaited interactive session with the chief guest was followed by his address, wherein students asked various questions from the field of  education and entrepreneurship. 
He was candid with the students as he answered all the questions and fears they raised. During the course of his interaction, he passionately focused on the importance of education and need of paradigm shift in way we look at future challenges. 
While answering the question, “What are your contributions towards improving the quality of education in Indian schools of Oman?”,  he talked about various initiatives taken up by the BOD under his leadership. Giving highlights of the future agendas he talked about ‘Vision 2020’ – one of the initiatives of the BOD. He also told about how BOD is reaching out to the needs of the students by having round the clock telephonic counseling for students.  He also talked about “Indian school in Oman virtual learning center” as one of the initiatives to help students. 
While talking about holistic education, he said, “it’s the mission of the BOD to provide holistic education.  Holistic Education is based on the principle that each child be nurtured and educated though both academic and non-academic means, with focus on the overall development of the child.”
As the interactive session went on, one of the students asked, “Education, at present, is all about developing IQ. Why Emotional Quotient is totally neglected?  Isn’t it a major drawback of the system?”  To this he answered that EQ is equally important and thus the BOD had taken up tasks to make sure that he students are able to have social interaction and thus by sharing and caring the need of EQ is fulfilled, he said that the various clubs in the schools allow students to have talks beyond the syllabus, books and curriculum allowing them to work on Emotional quotient.
To answer one of the questions asked by the students he gave a detailed comparison of ‘his time’ and ‘present time’. He showed how the present generation is different from the older generation in terms of logical thinking, having possessions, thinking style, thought process and so on.
Dr. Baby Sam’s humbleness and modesty in answering all the questions raised by students touched the hearts of one and all who attended the Interactive Session. In his concluding words he congratulated students for their excellent ‘eye opener’ questions and praised the school authorities and the SMC for their untiring effort taken in support of the students and the community in Salalah.  
The vote of thanks was proposed by Engr. Jonathan Solomon, Chairman, Infrastructure & IT subcommittee and Member-SMC. He in his address expressed his gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said for his benevolence. He conveyed his deep sense of gratitude to Dr. Baby Sam Saamuel-Chairman of the Board of Directors, Indian Schools in Oman,  for guiding and motivating the students. He also thanked Dr. Hassan kashoob, Vice Chancellor, Dhofar university, Dr. Jamil, Acting President of SMC and the admin of Dhofar university authority for their support in providing the auditorium and making the event a grand success. He thanked the President of SMC, Dr. Jamil, his colleagues in SMC and Principal Mr. T.R. Brown for the successful organization of this event. The  session came to an end with a photo session with the chief guest Dr. Baby Sam Saamuel-Chairman of the Board of Directors, Indian Schools in Oman.
