INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH CELEBRATES

150th BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF MAHATMA GANDHI

India’s 3rd national festival Gandhi Jayanthi was celebrated with a great zeal, enthusiasm and patriotism at Indian School Salalah on 2nd October 2018 to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi. The occasion was graced by the Principal Mr T R Brown, Vice Principal Dr Srinvasan (Administration), Vice Principal Dr Sivaprasad (Acedemics), Assistant Vice Principal Mr C T Ramasamy(senior section) , Assistant Vice Principal Mrs Ananthalakshmi (middle section), Department Heads, Incharges and teachers of the school.
The day began with the celebration of Gandhi Jayanthi by the Lower Primary with an invocation to the Almighty. Miss Gopika and Master Savion from UKG welcomed the audience. The blooming buds of UKG and class II sang a melodious patriotic song that was followed by a speech on the importance of the day. The dance presented by the tiny tots mesmerized the gathering as they danced to the beat and rhythm of the patriotic song.
In the celebration of the upper primary, Miss Sian and Master Advaith Aneesh  of class IV spoke about the great deeds of Mathama Gandhi. The primary school choir paid their tribute to Bapuji by singing “Aaja re aaja.” Miss Ferra, Miss Rakendu, and Miss Asma of class IV, in their speech highlighted the sacrifice and the contribution of Gandhi in the freedom struggle of India. Thereafter a quiz was conducted by Miss Janaki of class IV A, which was followed by a skit based on Gandhiji’s life. Vice Principal (Academics), Dr. Shivaprasad in his speech emphasized to follow the teachings of Gandhiji. Principal Mr T R Brown spoke on tolerance and exhorted students to imbibe the values of tolerance. At the end, the primary school choir paid tribute to the Mahatma by singing his favourite song “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram.”
The programme by the middle and senior section began with a prayer song “ Thum hi ho” that created a devotional ambience. Master Tahmridul of class VI G welcomed the gathering. Ms.Evelyn threw light on the top ten fundamentals to change the world, which was followed by a skit based on the incidents of Gandhiji’s life that was inspiring to all and encouraged to think about the simple living of Gandhiji. The School Choir paid a tribute by singing the famous song of M.S Subha Lakshmi “ Vaishnava Janato” which was one of his favourites. An informative power point presentation was presented, which highlighted Gandhiji’s role in uniting the country, in fighting against the British rule and awakening the masses of the country to remove untouchability, poverty and other social evils. A general awareness quiz was conducted for classes V to VIII based on the life of Gandhiji.
Mr.C.T.Ramasamy, Asst.Vice Principal, (Senior section) in his brief address said that Gandhiji always spoke the truth and he learnt to be truthful from the story of Harichandra. He advised the students to watch the Oscar winning movie on Gandhi, which will give them an insight into Gandhi’s life.
Dr.Shivaprasad, Vice Principal (Academics) in his address emphasized on the meaning of the song “Vaishnava Janato” which was sung by the School Choir. He said that people of God should understand the pain of others and should do the best to reduce the pain of their fellow beings. He advised students to be true Gandhian.
Principal Mr.T.R.Brown in his address highlighted the importance to identify themselves with the life of Gandhiji. He advised the students to follow the principles of non-violence, peace, harmony and universal brother hood. He also reminded the students that the school will celebrate Ghandhiji’s 150th birth anniversary for a period of 2 years, commencing from October 2,2018 to October 2,2020.
Master Mubashir of class VI delivered the vote of thanks. The programme ended with the National Anthem.
