INDEPEDEDENCE DAY CELEBRATION WITH BLOOD DONATION 

AT INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH

Indian School Salalah celebrated the 72nd Independence Day of India on 15th August, 2018 with great patriotic fervor and exuberance in the school premises.
Mr. C.T Ramasamy, Assistant Vice Principal Academics formally welcomed the Guest of honour Mr.Mohammad Ali, General Manager, Omantel, Dr. Debashish C Bhattacharya, President of the school Management Committee, esteemed members of the School Management Committee, Principal Mr.T.R. Brown, Chairman, Indian Social Club Mr. Manpreet Singh, Former President of Indian Social Club, Mr. Sanathanan and all other distinguished guests and invitees.  The programme commenced with a prayer song by the school choir to invoke the blessings of the Almighty. It was followed by the National Anthem. Welcome address was delivered by Miss. Aiman Arif of class VIII.  
Dr. Debashish C Bhattacharya, President of the School Management Committee in his address said that the word Independence can be split conveniently into two words ‘In’ and ‘Dependent’ and that “we are not independent until we stop being dependent.” He drew the attention to the fact that the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi is recognized by the world as the ‘Personality of the Century’ because he spoke for Independence, Non- Violence and Satyagraha.. He also stressed the need in being independent from bad habits, greed, lust, communal feelings and enmity.. He concluded his speech by appealing to the parents that the best seeds are sown at home, cultivated in the school, flowered and nourished by the society and environment and finally the world enjoys the view of it. He named it as the cycle of evolution and human personality.
72nd Independence day celebration also observed the launching of an extra ordinary humanitarian and noble act of blood donation in response to the appeal of the Ministry of Health to all the   Schools in Oman. For this noble act and as an expression of patriotic spirit, Indian School Salalah organized ‘Blood Donation Camp’ on 15th August 2018 with the great support of Medical Expert team from Sultan Qaboos Hospital. The camp was declared open by the President of the School Management committee, Dr. Debashish.C.Battacharya in the gracious presence of Mr.Mohammad Ali, General Manager, Omantel and other distinguished guests. The camp had a good response from the community who donated their precious blood.
Mr. C.T Ramasamy, Assistant Vice Principal, Academics familiarized the audience with the new initiatives that are initiated by Indian Schools in Oman under the Chairmanship of Dr. Baby Sam Samuel, Chairman, Board of Directors, Indian Schools in Oman. The first and the foremost initiative, Young Communitarian of Indian Schools (YCIS) was introduced to the spectators. He said that the main objectives of YCIS are serving the community, assisting the needy and preserving the environment. Mr. Umesh, faculty , Social Science Department was designated as the co ordinator of YCIS in Indian School Salalah. He also acquainted the crowd with the other initiatives like the Tele-Counselling Service to the students and teachers by an expert team of counselors, that is launched on 15th August in Al Seeb school, and the mega Expo and the Career Guidance Programme (AVENIR2018) to be held in Al Maabela school on 11th& 12th October, 2018.
The emphatic speech in English by Miss. Samiksha and Miss. Hana of class IV F and in Hindi by Miss. Isra Mohi of class VIII A amplified one’s patriotic spirit. In their speech they emphasized on India’s turbulent past and her journey since independence and the achievements India has made in various fields.
 The cultural programmes started off with a scintillating dance performance by the students of class III and IV which enthralled the audience. The fascinating dance performance by the students of Class VIII was a blend of ‘Satyameva Jayate’ and ‘milei sun Mera Hamara’. The vibrant music captivated the audience and awakened the true spirits of Patriotism. The melodious patriotic song ‘ Ye Desh Hai Tera…’ by the students of class VIII threw light on Children’s love for their motherland, and held the audience spell bound. The English Skit ‘Independence day and Millennium Children’ by class VIII students delivered a strong message that students are the backbone of a nation and also the future rulers and leaders of a country.
The new faculty members who joined Indian School Salalah recently were introduced to the gathering on this auspicious day. The compering team in their traditional wears representing each state, captured the attention of the spectators through their compering style.
 The celebration came to an end with the vote of thanks proposed by Miss. Sharon and Mast. Kashif of class VIII H and it was followed by the distribution of sweets.
