INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH OBSERVES WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY

Indian School Salalah observed ‘the World No Tobacco Day' on 31 May 2018 in the school Auditorium to highlight the risks associated with tobacco usage. Every year, the world observes ‘ No tobacco day’ to make people aware of all health complications caused by tobacco and its by products. This year’s theme is Tobacco and heart diseases. The ultimate mission is to cease the consumption of tobacco among teens, adults and addicts. Principal Mr.T.R.Brown, Vice Principal Mr.S.Srinivasan, A.V.P.(Academics) Mr.C.T. Ramaswamy and HODs of various departments  graced the occasion with their esteemed presence.

Students of class VII along with  Department of Social science organised a series of events to make students from classes VI to XII aware of the harmful effects of tobacco. The programme commenced with a welcome speech by Akhila Anoop from Class VII D. Ms. Sreenidhi from Class VII A, in her speech   highlighted the fact that tobacco causes almost three million deaths due to cardio vascular diseases every year. The next programme on the stage was a heart wrenching skit performed by the students of class VII on the effect of passive smoking.

A street play which portrayed the harmful effects of Cigarette-The killer stick, by the students of class VII, brought awareness among the students and urged  them to say ‘NO’ to tobacco’ and also take forth the same message to their elders who use tobacco. All the students present in the auditorium took an oath to stop the use of tobacco among every one.

An energetic campaign as part of “World No Tobacco Day” ceremony was the highlight of the day. The rally comprised of students of class VII, who marched through the corridors of the school holding the placards with anti-tobacco slogans. They went to each class and spread the message of living healthy life by saying ‘NO’ to Tobacco.

The posters and the models displayed in the school quadrangle educated everyone and highlighted the risk of tobacco consumption.  Principal Mr. T.R. Brown in his address talked about the serious impact of smoking. He advised the students to keep themselves away from the dangers of tobacco. He also highlighted the greater dangers of passive smoking. He said that our little efforts will make a world of difference. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Karishni Bharadwaj from Class VII C.
Principal Mr.T.R.Brown, President of the school management committee Dr.Debashish Bhattacharya and the esteemed members of SMC appreciated the efforts of Social science department in organizing such awareness programmes.
