IS SALALAH CELEBRATED ‘KERALA PIRAVI’ WITH POMP AND SPLENDOUR

Indian School Salalah  with its Malayalam Department, on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of 'Kerala Piravi' brought the art and culture of Kerala alive on 9th November 2017, Thursday during school hours in the auditorium here. 'Kerala Piravi' is the celebration of the formation of Kerala state by the unification of Travancore, Cochin and Malabar in 1956.

Mr. P M Jabir Director, Kerala Non Resident Keralites Welfare Fund Board presided over the function as the chief guest. The occasion was  graced by Dr. Debashish C Bhattacharya , the President of the School Management Committee, Mr. T R Brown , the Principal, Mr. Vinay Kumar C , the Treasurer , SMC, Dr. Abubacker Siddique, (member SMC), Mr. Manivannan, (member SMC), Mrs Omana Mathews, Vice Principal, Mr. C T Ramasamy Asst. Vice Principal (Academics) amidst teachers and students.

The function began with a prayer song invoking the blessings of the almighty. Miss. Anlia of class X F introduced the Chief Guest Mr. P M Jabir followed by a welcome song by the students of classes VI and VII. Miss. Gowri Nandakumar of class IX E formally welcomed the august gathering.

The Chief Guest of the day Mr. P M Jabir inaugurated the function by lighting the traditional lamp. The Chief Guest Mr. P M Jabir addressed the students highlighting the cultural heritage, tradition and diversity that the state of Kerala has ever been upholding among the other states of India. He then shared a number of myths and legends that persisted concerning the origin of Kerala and reminded the students that they should safeguard the values in life and must be the stewards of compassion and mercy. Mr. Vinay Kumar C, the Treasurer, SMC and Dr. Abubacker Siddique, member SMC also conveyed their wishes to everyone on the occasion.

Celebrating the festivity, students in traditional Kerala attire put up a very colourful and extravagant display of cultural extravaganza that included Mohiniyattam, Thiruvathira Oppana Group song , Group Dance and myriad of mesmerizing activities. The Speech by Miss. Nanada Anil and the poetry recitation by Master Amruth Krishna drew special attention of each and everyone present there.

During the function Mrs. Omana Mathews, the Vice Principal was honoured with a memento in recognition of her 35 year long selfless service to the institution by the Chief Guest Mr. P M Jabir along with the President, Dr. Debashish C Bhattacharya, the Principal, Mr. T R Brown and the other esteemed members of the SMC. It was followed by the presentation of memento to the Chief Guest Mr. P M Jabir also as a token of appreciation and gratitude. The Chief Guest Mr. P M Jabir, in turn, presented the copy of his Biography “Aamughamilatha Anubhavangal” to Dr. Debashish C Bhattacharya, President of the SMC.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Debashish C Bhattacharya lauded the work carried out by Mr. P M Jabir as a social worker and community developer in his tenure of 35 years not only in Oman but in the entire GCC. Dr. Debashish C Bhattacharya also did introduce Mr. P M Jabir as a great writer who published his biography recently. He took this opportunity to appreciate Mr. T R Brown along with the Malayalam Department for stupendous execution of “Kerala Piravi” at IS Salalah.

The function concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Shaji K Vazhode, Head of the Malayalam Department.
