I S SALALAH HOSTS OMAN CBSE CLUSTER CHESS TOURNAMENT-2017

The 28^th October 2017, Saturday is marked with great joy and pleasure as eight Indian schools all over Oman including the host school competed in CBSE Oman Cluster Chess Tournament-2017.

To mark the day all the participants assembled in the school quadrangle along with their coaches, Mr. Udaya Divakar, Arbitrator, Mr. Sajit Kumar , (Indian School Mobela), CBSE Observer for Oman Chapter. The tournament was inaugurated and declared open by Dr. Debashish C Bhattacharya, the President of SMC .  After declaring it open, Dr. Debashish C Bhatacharya, the President, SMC welcomed all the contingents of the Oman CBSE Cluster Chess, their coaches and teachers and he told that Indian School Salalah is proud to host for the first time the chess tournament and he believed that children here in Salalah need to be exposed to the happening world of chess. He further spoke on chess, the ancient game and Chanakya, the great scholar of astronomy and stressed on the enormous values that are attached to chess.

Thereafter all the participants swore that they would respect and abide by the rules that govern them, in the true spirit of sportsmanship and for the glory of sport during the Oath Taking Ceremony led by Mr. T R Brown, the Principal.

As per the fixtures the game carried out in boys and girls teams under 11, under 14, under 17 and under 19 categories. In under11 categories boys, Indian School Salalah won the first prize; Indian School Al Ghubra and Indian School Wadi Khabir secured the second and third prizes respectively. In girls’ category, (under 11)Indian School Muscat, Indian School Salalah and Indian School Wadi Kabir grabbed the first, second and third positions respectively.

In Under14 boys category Indian School Wadi Kabir won the first prize, Indian School Salalah and Indian School Muscat shared the second positions. In girls (U-14) category, when Indian School Muscat won the first position, Indian School Wadi Kabir and Indian School Sohar secured the second and   third positions respectively.

In Under17 boys category, Indian School Seeb won the first position followed by Indian School Muscat and Indian School Wadi Kabir won the second and third position respectively. In girls’ category, Indian School Muscat, Indian School Wadi Kabir and Indian School Maabela won the first, second and third positions respectively.

In Under19 boys, Indian School Al Ghubra won the first position, Indian School Wadi Kabir won the second position and Indian School Muscat and Indian School Salalah shared the third position. In girls (U-19) category, while Indian School Muscat won the first position, the second and third positions were won by Indian School Wadi Kabir and Indian School Salalah respectively.

In the evening, during the closing ceremony of School Annual Athletic Meet: 2017, all the winners were honoured with medals and trophies by the Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Khalid Al Mashikshi, the Dean, College of Arts and Applied Sciences, Dhofar University. Mr. Udaya Divakar, Arbitrator and Mr. Sajith, (Indian School Mabela), CBSE Observer for Oman Chapter were honoured in the function.  The occasion was also graced by Dr. Debashish C. Bhattacharya, the President, the School Management Committee and Mr. T R Brown, the Principal along with the esteemed members, SMC, guests, invitees, the staff, parents and students.
