SCHOOL MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE OF IS SALALAH CELEBRATES TEACHERS’ DAY WITH STAFF

Every year on 5th September, Teachers’ Day is celebrated in India to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. S Radhakrishnan, the former President of India, who was a staunch believer of education, a well- known diplomat, scholar, philosopher and above all a great ‘Teacher’. To mark their respect towards the harbingers of knowledge and to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of their teachers, the Management Committee of Indian School Salalah organized Teachers’ Day celebration at Hotel Hamdan Plaza on 5th September 2019 in the evening.

Mr Binoy CA and Mrs Renu Jethin, Faculties, Department of English, extended a warm welcome to the members of the School Management Committee, Principal Mr. Deepak Patankar, Vice Principal Dr. S Srinivasan, Assistant Vice Principal Mrs. Anantha Lakshmi (Middle Section), in charges, HODs, the teaching and the non teaching staff.

 Principal Mr. Deepak Patankar formally welcomed the gathering. In his welcome address he stressed on the fact that teaching is not an easy profession and that every teacher puts a lot of effort to handle a heterogeneous class. He also said that a best teacher is the one who inspires slow, steady changes and awakening resistant in the learner in silence.  He also shared the message and wishes sent by Dr. Baby Sam Samuel, Chairman, Board of Directors, Sultanate of Oman and Dr.C.M.Najeeb, Vice Chairman, BOD..

It was indeed a proud moment for the entire Indian School Salalah fraternity to honour Dr. Syed Ahsan Jamil, President of the School Management Committee, to be the first Indian in Sultanate of Oman to achieve the post of Deputy Vice Chancellor of Dhofar University. Principal Mr. Deepak Patankar, Vice Principal Dr. S Srinivasan along with the esteemed members of the School Management Committee honoured Dr. Syed Ahsan Jamil, President of the School Management Committee with a brocaded traditional shawl as a mark of respect as in the Indian Custom.

Dr Syed Ahsan Jamil, President of the School Management Committee, in his address expressed his heartfelt gratitude for honouring him. He then formally introduced the new Principal of Indian School Salalah, Mr. Deepak Patankar and said that Indian School Salalah is in the safe hands of an exuberant and enthusiastic leader. The new members of the School Management Committee Dr. R Navnitha Krishnan (Professor, Salalah College of technology), Dr. Muhammed Yousoof Ismail (Assistant Professor, Dhofar University), Mr. P.L Eapen Abel (Regional Manager) and Mrs. Harmit Pal was introduced to the teaching fraternity. He then stated that teaching is not a job, but rather, it is an attitude. He also said that the influence of a teacher on the future generation is immense and, that is the real essence of being a teacher. He highlighted that the role of a teacher in a futuristic era is to make better human beings. He emphasized that Indian School Salalah is blessed with a wonderful set of dedicated teachers and he considers it as his privilege to be associated with this fraternity. He concluded his speech by saying that in recognition of the great work and effort done by the teachers, the School Management Committee has declared a Revised Pay Scale with effect from 1st September 2019. The teaching fraternity of Indian School Salalah welcomed this long awaited declaration with a big round of applause.

The day also witnessed the launching of the official Face book page of Indian School Salalah with Principal, Mr. Deepak Patankar as its Admin. Dr. Syed Ahsan Jamil, President of the School Management Committee inaugurated the face book group by posting a video filmed by Mast.Abdullah Syed and his team of class XII. He in his inaugural speech said that this noble endeavour will help the parents to understand the school and its achievements better. He also said that information will reach the parents in “real time” and thus they are updated with the happenings in the school.

Vice Principal, Dr. S. Srinivasan, who coordinated the prize distribution ceremony proudly called the teachers who secured 100% attendance in the academic year 2018-19. All the 39 teachers under this category were honoured with a certificate and cash prize for their selfless service. The Class Co-ordinators from Kindergarten to class XII, for the academic years 2017-19, were honoured with the ‘Letter of Appreciation’ to acknowledge their dedicated service for the smooth functioning of the school. The honouring was done by Dr. Syed Ashan Jamil, the President of SMC and the other esteemed members of SMC.

The teachers lent colour to the occasion by showcasing their talents and regaled the gathering with various entertainment programmes. It kicked off with the group song, “Zindagi pyaar ka geet hai” by the teachers of the Primary Wing, which enthralled the audience. The scintillating semi classical dance performance on the song ‘maargazhi thingalallava’ by Mrs Dhanya Mukesh mesmerized the spectators. Mr. Parvinder Singh, Mr. Harish, Mr Mukesh, Mrs Angel and Mrs. Deepthi captivated the viewers with their individual soothing melodious songs. Mr. Ishwar Deshmuk grabbed the audience by mimicking the famous cine artist Mr. Raj Kumar and also by his rhythmic singing. The vibrant and energetic musical ensemble by Mr. Parvinder Singh, Mr. Harish, Mr. Mukesh, Mrs. Reenu Davis and Mrs. Rekha Prashanth left the spectators awestruck. The School Management Committee members, teaching and non teaching staff actively participated in the games organized by Mr. Parvinder and his team and prizes were given away to the winners.

The programme came to an end with the vote of thanks proposed by KG in charge Mrs. Reenu Davis. The comperes Mr. Parvinder Singh, Mrs. Anita Rose and Mrs. Racheal Abraham added grace to the celebration with their casual and entertaining compering style. The momentous evening came to an end with a hearty dinner.
